GREEK ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN ICONS

In Orthodox Christian style of iconography the images are not painted entirely realistically. They are not real portraits of Christ or Virgin as a human persons in a flesh. Icons should reveal the Divine Truth of existed persons or events. It is why the most of orthodox icons and especially Greek icons use symbolism as a major technique. Symbolism allowed the icon to present real world in a simple way, explaining theology in a possible method to understand complicate questions.
